1) What is a "cooperativa sociale"
(social co-operative)? In Italy, there are some
associations with the mission to fulfil collective needs
by means of preventive social intervention to avoid
social exclusion and to promote social and job
reintegration. These organizations are enterprises but
they are non-profit organizations. Italian Law calls ONLUS (Organizzaioni Non lucrative di Utilita Sociale) all non-profit organizations: NGO, associations of volunteers, "social economy" enterprises and also organizations that work for collective needs. KOINOS manages social services in its own town (Molfetta Italy) as well as in the surrounding towns. Besides it co-operates with other national and international agents especially in the field of social training. 4) How many kinds of "cooperativa sociale" are there? There are

There are 3 social workers, 6 social animators and 2 accountant. 7) What is the mission of KOINOS? We work to prevent social exclusion. In old Greek the word KOINOS means "community" or "union". 9) Why is KOINOS a non-profit enterprise? KOINOS is an enterprise that works in a market, with professional workers, but all is done regardless of any commercial profit. |
